Statistician at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Statistics Section is part of the Executive Management Office. The section consists of 15 employees, and its main task is to drive and develop the authority's overall statistical operations. This includes being responsible for developing and ensuring conditions for monitoring operations. The work involves producing various types of analyses and statistical publications to contribute to a transparent and knowledge-driven correctional system. The section assists external stakeholders with deliveries of statistics and analyses. The assignment includes leading the management within the area of leadership and monitoring. The work includes supporting the operations by driving the development of statistical systems/BI solutions. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service uses the management model pm3.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a statistician at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you will work on monitoring and analyzing operations. You will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop the analysis work, including using forecasts to contribute knowledge within and outside the organization. Other tasks include contributing to the section's mission by producing and quality assuring monitoring materials, answering questions from internal and external actors, and participating in assignments and projects. Another part of the job is to assess and analyze the consequences that changes in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's assignments and regulations may entail.

The work location is at one of our offices (Norrköping, Malmö, Gothenburg, Örebro, Stockholm, or Härnösand). Please note that the position involves business travel to the head office in Norrköping on a regular basis (every week).

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is attentive and works well with others. You are used to planning and organizing your work, and you drive to get things done. We also see that you are meticulous and well aware of goals and quality standards in your work.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree in statistics or another equivalent education that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
  • Several years of experience in statistical analysis that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
  • Experience in independent investigative work
  • Experience in presenting statistical materials
  • Experience in collaborating with other professional groups
  • Good communication skills in spoken and written Swedish
  • Good knowledge of a statistical tool

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience in forecasting work
  • Experience in working with and driving development issues
  • Experience in working with registry data
  • Experience in statistical work within public operations
  • Knowledge of programming
